Relaxing Guided Meditation (#1) ASMR "Control Anger, Stress, Anxiety" Greek Philosophy, Stoicism22/9/2019 "There are things which are within our power, and there are things which are beyond our power. Within our power are opinion, aim, desire, aversion, and, in one word, whatever affairs are our own. Beyond our power are body, property, reputation, office, and, in one word, whatever are not properly our own affairs...." So starts the first lesson in The Manual For Life, from the teachings of the great Greek philosopher, Epictetus. Click on the image below to watch and listen to my latest guided meditation.
You have to admit it, that there is a great wisdom in knowing
what things you can control, and what things you can't control. Much of our anger, frustration and anxiety stems from things that we can't control, and it is a waste of time and energy to be worried all the time about them. It's like the weather: Can you control the weather? Of course not. So simply take your precautions and make auxiliary plans, but being anxious, angry or frustrated is not going to help at all. In today's guided meditation, Epictetus warns us that when we really want something badly enough, we are sometimes willing to 'sell ourself cheaply'; we lower our standards, and we forget about our deepest values like honour, virtue, justice etc.
This can lead you down a very 'slippery slope', becoming the type of person that you despise. This will cause you 'dis-ease', and can lead to demotivation and depression. Guess what? You don't have to do that ! Focusing on maintaining your high values and being true to yourself is the path to fulfilment. So after today's guided meditation, you will base your decisions on your highest ethos knowing that in the middle and long-term, you will get much better results in your life. Just sit back, relax and know that true happiness cannot rest on a lie, but only on Truth and Virtue, as Socrates would say.

He continues, "Is a drop of your oil spilt? Is your cup of wine stolen? Say to yourself, 'This is the price paid for freedom from passion, this is the price of a quiet mind'.

The Most Important Question You Can Ask Yourself Right Now To Free Yourself #GreekPhilosophy4/9/2019
Although fear can sometimes be beneficial, alerting you to real dangers, too much fear and pessimism can poison your mind with self-defeating doubt and paralyse you with indecision. You have to therefore “police” your brain, and only allow it to think thoughts which are useful, in order to keep it healthy and productive.
Consider a specific (obsessive, compulsive) fear-thought or belief that
you have been having lately. What is the benefit of allowing it to run around in your mind? Does it help you in any way? Who would you be if you didn’t have it? What would your life look like, if it did not exist?
Managing your psycho-physiology, (Greek: thoughts-body (ie “State”) is no easy task, especially when there are deep seated fears and insecurities. The application of Ethos (integrity/truth), Pathos (emotional intelligence) and Logos (practical/strategic) as a ‘filtering system’ for dealing with unwanted thoughts works, as this anecdotal story with Socrates demonstrates...
"It is a warm, summer's night in ancient Athens, and Socrates is walking with a friend, when suddenly...." Watch today's video-episode to find out what happens.

Are you a type of slave? If so, how can you liberate yourself?
Epictetus, one of the greatest philosophers of all time, was born into slavery about A.D. 55 in Hierapolis located in the eastern borders of the Roman Empire. He taught himself to read and eventually, when Epictetus was freed, he established an influential school teaching Stoic principles that focused on overcoming life’s griefs, annoyances, and roadblocks.
Among his many students was the future emperor of Rome, Marcus Aurelius, and lately, entrepreneurs in Silicon Valley are turning to his teachings.
Why ? Stoic philosophy is all about 'unshakable freedom'. See today's Guided Meditation to learn more. Sincerely, Alkistis PS, If you would like to purchase UNINTERRUPTED, studio-recorded Guided Meditations CLICK HERE.

"Never say of anything, ' I lost it...' but say, 'I gave it back..." So begins the 11th lesson of 'The Enchiridion', the ancient manual for life, based on the teachings of the Greek-Stoic philosopher Epictetus.
For example, Has your estate been taken away from you?
Epictetus advises to say that you are the one who returned it... Treat everything as if it is not your own; you are just a caretaker of it for awhile... So if you have been holding on too long to a certain idea, thing or person, and it is causing you too much anxiety or resentment, by the end of this guided meditation, you will feel relieved.
