Do you ever wonder how some people just seem to have calm
and certainty, no matter what they are faced with? This is sometimes referred to as "stoic'"calm, because Stoics, since the times of ancient Greece, were known for their mental and emotional resilience.
They practiced "Ataraxia" (serene calmness). In today's video, I will reveal to you 2 central concepts of Stoic practice, that can help you face life's challenges and obstacles with self-mastery. "The greatest victory, is over oneself"- Plato. ![]()
Although physically ugly, Socrates had great charisma
and a brilliant mind. Everyone in Athens agreed that there had never been anyone quite like him and probably wouldn’t be again. He was unique....But he was also extremely annoying. Socrates described himself as one of those horseflies that have a nasty bite—a gadfly. They’re irritating, but don’t do serious harm. Some loved him; others thought him a dangerous influence.’ Socrates would approach perfect strangers in the marketplace and ask them questions about their life... While Socrates’ questions often seemed ‘straightforward’, they were really designed to make the other person think hard about his beliefs and re-evaluate things that they would normally take for granted.
